Prior to early settlement abundant forests of oversized Cedars, Quandong, Beech and Silky Oaks covered 'The Rocks'. Cleared late last century by the timber getters, the land was used to farm dairy, banana and ginger. Now a reforestation program has started in order to return the natural scenery and encourage indigenous wildlife to flourish again. Phase one of the Timber Plantation commenced on September 29, 2002 (Kit's Birthday). After four arduous days a range of 2400 native trees returned home . Many thanks to Bruce and John for their advice and hard work in helping to establish the Timber Plantation at 'The Rocks'. Their assistance will be invaluable as we move forward to the next phase. Queensland Timber Plantations provides a consultancy plantation establishment/management service of mixed species native cabinet and hardwood timbers. Visit their web site for more information. |
